Let’s catalog 1.8 million…

An ambitions new project called “Encyclopedia of Life” is under way which will categorize and make available online over 1.8 million species. According to a National Geographic News article, “Encyclopedia of Life” to Catalog All Species on Earth, this project “…will be assembled using aggregation, or “mash-up,” technology, which draws on information from different sources and integrates it into a single experience.”

Sure, it’s not like they’re digitizing massive book collections, but in a sense, it’s what most of us want in a kick-ass resource: everything. Oh, and it will be freely available online. Bombasto!
