Encyclopedia of Life: it’s alive!

Back in May 2007 I wrote about this great online initiative called The Encyclopedia of Life, now available online:

eol.jpgWelcome to the first release of the Encyclopedia of Life portal. This is the very beginning of our exciting journey to document all species of life on Earth.

Comprehensive, collaborative, ever-growing, and personalized, the Encyclopedia of Life is an ecosystem of websites that makes all key information about all life on Earth accessible to anyone, anywhere in the world.

There’s quite a bit of content here, with beautiful pictures and illustrations of thousands of species, links to institutional partners that have additional data on your particular critter, and tons of other great stuff–you can even be a curator for your favorite species!

Granted, it’s far from finished but what’s available now totally rocks.
